Mussolini Headkick – Blood On The Flag
    Filed under: ebm,industrial,rock — iceolate @ 11:20 am

Mussolini Headkick is a cult-band from England that released two albums in the late 80s to early 90s. Most people are most likely going to be familiar with the group because of the inclusion of the song “Your God is Dead” on the Wax Trax! Records compilation Blackbox – Wax Trax! Records: The First 13 Years. Mussolini Headkick’s first album, Themes For A Violet Retribution was the only one they released on Wax Trax! and generated some controversy due to the name of the group itself and the cover image of a man being crucified on a swastika. This, coupled with the military/political nature of the lyrics, led the band to be labeled as fascists and having an ultra-right wing mentality. Blood On The Flag was the last album released by the group (both produced by ex-Revolting Cock Luc Van Acker). Presumably the members decided to pursue other projects, but this is unclear since their is almost no information about the group at all on the Internet.

    Matthias Schuster – Atemlos

Matthias Schuster was one of the early German minimal artists active in the 80s. He was originally part of the band Geisterfahrer, the members of which he collaborated with in various other projects. Atemlos (which sort of translates as “breathlessly”) is a CD reissue of his first solo record, and also contains two extra records never before released on CD: Rituals with bandmate Hans Keller, and the first Im Namen Des Volkes record, entitled Ich War Da, Leergebrannt. Many of the other releases that Schuster was involved with can be found on NLW, which was a German minimal electro label founded in 2003. More recently in the last few years, Schuster has been involved with a techno / ambient project entitled Das Institut, which has 3 releases out. Atemlos, however, is a fantastic CD compliation of some old minimal music that fans will enjoy very much.

Portion Control – The Man Who Did Backward Somersaults
    Filed under: ebm,electronic,experimental,industrial,minimal — iceolate @ 10:32 pm

The Man Who Did Backward Somersaults is a collection of material from 1982-1986 by British electro industrial band Portion Control. Released on TEQ Music? (The Empty Quarter) in 1994, it represented the first time any Portion Control material was available on CD, as all of their material through the 80s was released on vinyl or cassette. This release would be an excellent release for interested parties to get their hands on as an introduction to such a fine band. However, this CD has long been out of print, and the few used copies that ever turn up for sale are extraordinarily expensive. Luckily, Portion Control has re-released (if not re-mastered?) their entire back-catalog in the 4-CD box set, Archive. The box set will run you have the price that a used copy of The Man Who Did Backward Somersaults would, and it also contains a few extra bonuses, such as artwork and an exclusive Rhys Fulber remix. More information about about the boxed set, and forthcoming projects, can be found at the Portion Control website.
